Greenwich Filming and Scholarship

On the 18th November, I went down to Greenwich university to have a scholarship interview! Needless to say, when I was younger and failing at highschool and general life,  i NEVER thought i'd even be able to go to university - let alone be offered an interview for a scholarship!

Its not that I never tried at school - I was just never good at anything. If it wasn't for my amazing sixth form college theres no way i'd be where I am right now. I dont know where i'd be right now if I wasn't doing film studies, media or photography.
I'd probably be applying for some kind of full time job at a taxi office with my dad... D: ew.

Sorry. Just got a but nostalgic there...

So anyway - point of this blog is while I was there - as well as being offered the scholarship - Cinderella was being shot there at the Greenwich chapel. I think the film is going to come out in 2015 - I cant wait to see the film and recognise the people in the costumes and see how they got different shots and things like that!

You should have seen the lighting and filming equipment! I could only watch from the distance. But it all looked so exciting! I just wanted to jump into the action and help carry a camera or a jib.. or a lighting diffuser!

If I did end up going to that uni - it would be cool to just get a deck chair and watch everything happen while a huge production company make a film! Could even be better than watching a film! If your a student there - you even get a chance to be a runner on the film...

Im ot looking forward to making the 'which uni will i go to?' choice :S

These where all taken on my mobile phone. Its pretty impressive really what a mobile phone can do now :/

Have you ever felt the need to film paper boats at half ten at night?

Today has been a full on filming day.
Good news! I got the charger for my laptop from Amazon and I can finally do all my editing and stuff again! YAY!

I was also able to start filming again.
So today I first did some filming today for my film studies project, a group of us went down to my lovely estate to do some fighting bitchiness action. Im loving my film studies project at the moment! Not to mention I AM SO LUCKY that i've got two other talented people that are working with me. I swear if it wasn't for Jess in our group - it wouldn't be half as good as it's looking at the moment!
As for the other guy in our group (Daniel) - He's like a beast with the stedi-cam!
So anyway - yeah - filming was fun with that today - now we only have scene left to shoot and one scene let to re-shoot.

We were going to try using a dolly for the shots (not that we needed it because of Daniels stedi-cam shots) but the pavement was just a little bit too bumpy :(

Origionally, we where going to film this scene around the corner but there where so many cars and loads of people parked in corners. It just kind of ruined the scene and if one of them where to move then we'd have SO MANY continuity errors that I just cant be asked to deal with!

But to be honest the confined space, the darker lighting... it just fits so much better with whats going on in the scene - super glad I thought of it now :D

BUT THATS NOT ALL!
Like I asked, 'Have you ever felt the need to film paper boats at half ten at night ?'. I did. I literally JUST DID.

So this peuce of filming was for my music video for Media studies - I have literally spent the last few weeks just making paper boats! I have paper boats coming outta my ears!

For this shoot I wanted to get a studio kind of shot.
In an ideal world i'd have a glass tank with a white back ground and lots of awesome lighting! But in my world... I have a bath and and a flash hotshoe - but to be honest both probably give similar effects and work just as well.

(A few boats I made for the shoot)

While I was filming, I thought it would be cool to put a bit more depth into the frame...
SO. I added black paint to some bottled water and while the paper boats were afloat I splashed it with the black water. It just made the whole thing seem more artistic!

Some of what I used to splash the paper boats with the black watery paint.

This is basically what I had for lighting - but it worked really well in the dark. I love this flash because of the shadows it creates!

This is the kind of shot I was filming - I do love this kind of dark, artistic, eerie lighting.
To be honest - I just love lighting!

Speaking of black paint - yesterday I did some INK filming!

This wasn't for anything specific that I'm filming - this could be used for anything im working at the moment!
I will probably use it for the music video...
and maybe the short film for film studies.

I basically just poured in different inks and food colourings and things like that and filmed all sink and flow to the bottom of the jar.
I first did this kind of shoot for my AS photography exam. We had to do a photography shoot for it in class and I thought taking videos on my DSLR for overlays for the short video.

So I re-visited it and hopefully I have some better shots than last time to experiment with some overlays : D

No editing...

I haven't been able to edit college work or my own work for about 2 days now...
I honestly dont know what to do with myself anymore - its completly messed up my schedule! :(
Ive pretty much finished all the theory work... now im just bored.
Ive ordered a new charger for my laptop (praying it'll fix the problem) BUT IT DOESN'T COME TIL MONDAY :'(
I filmed with my film society group tonight AND im filming on sunday for the music video - I'll need to upload the footage to final cut before I can film anymore :( If it gets to the point where i'll have to stop filming...
I'll cry!

Shit Is Going Down!!!

So. For about a week I have been ignoring the fact my Mac needs technical attention.
But of course with coursework looming and what with all the editing of footage - I've chosen to blissfully ignore it.
Well. Tonight its finally and inevitably died!!!!
...
.
.

.....
So... its midnight and im frantically searching the internet for Mac book pro fix it places that claim to be quick and cheap!
Ive found one place, which hopefully i'll hear from in the morning, but for now... no editing footage or photos for me D: Not sure how i'll cope! HOW CAN I GO THROUGH A DAY WITHOUT EDITING SOMETHING!!! ~
But that okay... On my personal statement I said how good I was at adapting with different situations... So im just gonna chill and tomorrow instead of editing film in media - i'll work on paper (collecting ideas for film, planning portfolio) and work on my media blog and perfect all that. And pray my laptop gets fixed so I can make up the editing time I've lost/losing.

Dear GOD I sound insane X)

Bubbles!

This is an inversed shot I did on photoshop of the shot below.
I love how its very old looking and surreal - It nearly looks like an abstract of a desert landscape

Nice, Bright and Vibrant

I love the framing in this shot, im currently working on getting rid of the cranes in the background - cause they're REALLY ignoring me -_- But everything else i'm loving. This is one of those accidental shots but the ones that tend to turn out really well!

When taking this shot - I thought about using the flash on my camera - it certainly worked on bringing out the focus and saturation in the frame in comparison to the others. I also like how the lamp post adds more depth to the shot by acting as a strong source of leading lines.

The deep colours set the tone and depth for this shot! I love how the colours f the large bubble frames the landscape

This one was originally a landscape - but the foreground was so messy, i experimented by only keeping the back ground - i think this has worked in the sense of creating a panoramic effect.

Filming 05&06 November 2013

So, iv been doing a bit of filming lately...
On the 5th, two friends and myself where filming for our film studies project - There was one slight problem...
People living around Ipswich will know there where some storms not that long ago and unfortunately, the forest wasn't exactly how we left it. There where all kinds of trees and branches fallen down and there wasn't really a spare space to stand.
Luckily, the tree my group had planned on using was still safely useable and we could work around the wreckage the storm had left.
I felt pretty bad for our lead actress, it was freezing cold and there she was in a prom dress taking on the elements! Im pretty sure she got a cold from it all (Especially when she had to dip her feet in the frozen water) - but blankets, towels and coats where always on hand for her!

But all in all, the footage we got was pretty good and now i just have to edit and we'll eventually have a finished product.

THEN yesterday - I was filming a project i'm doing for myself and i filmed like half of it...
I thought it went well - the lighting was really simple but the hardest aspect of filming was trying to get extreme close ups with an automatic camera.

Slow Shutter

A few slow shutter speed shots from my night in London! I really liked how the water came out!
